A little piece of advice when choosing a wedding photographer…

Posted on June 28, 2012

So I thought it might be helpful to point out a trend I have been seeing in wedding photography. I have seen a lot of wedding photographers advertise that they are strictly a “natural light” photographer. Being a photographer to me means that you must know how to control both natural and artificial lighting. When choosing your wedding photographer make sure to ask to see samples of both natural and artificial lighting group shots. I personally LOVE using natural light most of the time, but there are weddings where this is simply not possible.  For example church weddings where the bride and groom want the photos at the alter. Below is a sample of a family shot from a recent wedding. For this shot I set up 2 speed-lights on light stands and 2 white shoot through umbrellas. If I were to shoot this photo with all natural light I would not have been able to get the detail in their faces. I would have had to use settings that would make the photo come out grainy or blurry. Just a piece of helpful advice 🙂
